काय आश्चर्य !
काही काही गोष्टी आपण धरून चालतो की आपल्याला त्या माहीत आहेत. असेच आश्चर्याचे आहे. तुम्हाला जर कोणी विचारले की आश्चर्य म्हणजे काय हे तुम्हाला माहीत आहे का ? तर हमखास छदमीपणे आपण हसून म्हणू "म्हणजे काय, माहीतय !" आणि जर विचारले की सांगा बरे सात आश्चर्ये कोणती आहेत ती ?
आता आली का पंचाईत ! अहो ताजमहाल हे आठवे आश्चर्य आहे हे तर पोटटया-सोटट्यांनाही माहीत आहे की ! अहो पण त्या अगोदरची सात आश्चर्ये कोणती ? आं कोणती बर ?
जर तुम्ही म्हणाल : गीझाचे पिरॅमिड, बॅबिलोनचे हॅंगिंग गार्डन, झीयसचा पुतळा ऑलिंपियाचा, एफेससचे आर्टेमिसचे देऊळ, हॅलिकार्नसेसचे म्युझियम, र्‍होडसचे कोलोसस, आणि अलेक्झांड्रियाचा दीपस्तंभ ----तर तुम्ही विकीपीडीयातून हे कॉपी केलेय हे नंतर सगळ्यांनाच कळेल. पण मराठी माणसासाठी सात आश्चर्ये कोणती ?
जाऊ द्या ! मीच सांगतो. ती आहेत अशी:
१) आकाशाला खांब नाही !
२) तळहाताला केस नाही !
३) समुद्राला झाकण नाही !
४) घोडयाला स्तन नाही !
५) देवाला आई-बाप नाहीत !
६) जीभेला हाड नाही !
७) केसाला रक्त नाही !
तुम्हाला वाटत असेल ही मी मनाने जुळविलेली आहेत तर ते तसे नसून ही सात आश्चर्ये आपल्या मराठी शब्दकोशात ( वा.गो.आपटे यांचा शब्दरत्नाकर पृ.७५५ वर "सात आश्चर्ये" समोर) ती दिलेली आहेत.
आता पुढची सगळी आश्चर्ये आपल्याला माहीत आहेत, नक्की ना ?

Seven Wonders of the World !
For some strange reason we feel sometimes confident that we know a certain answer. We think it is so easy that we know it already.
Here is a small demonstration. The question is : "WHAT ARE THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD ?"
Oh ! Don't you know that our Taj Mahal is officially declared as the eighth wonder of the world. So we know it. Well then what are those seven wonders ? Well....I knew it , but somehow.....
If you said that these are :
* Great Pyramid of Giza
* Hanging Gardens of Babylon
* Statue of Zeus at Olympia
* Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
* Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus
* Colossus of Rhodes
* Lighthouse of Alexandria...........................then obviously you got it from Wikipedia ?
But for a Marathi man , what are the seven wonders ?
Well , without much ado, I will tell you. These are :
1) There is no supporting column for the sky !
2) There are no hair on the palm !
3) There is no lid for the sea !
4) There is no breast for the horse !
5) God has no parents !
6) Tounge has no bone !
7) There is no blood in hair !
Don't think that I made up the above list of seven wonders myself ! No , it is given in our Marathi Dictionary ( W.G.Apte's ShabdaRatnakar page 755 against the word: saat aascharye ) .
Is'nt it a wonder that now, all further wonders we know ! What a wonder !
